“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. “ ~Winston Churchill
April is National Donate Life Month. Take the time to fill out that organ donor card. Nationally, more than 108,000 people are on the waiting list for an organ transplant.
These statistics were taken from the UNOS website:
Waiting list candidates as of today 11:03pm: 110,609
Active list candidates as of today11:03pm: 72,213
Transplants January - December 2010: 28,664
Donors January - December 2010: 14,506
Did you know that every 10 minutes another person is added to the national organ transplant waiting list? Or that about approximately 18 people die a day while waiting on life-saving organs? Or only one in four people will receive life-saving organs in time to make a difference?
I think y’all know how I feel about the gift of organ donation and what it means to a family. If case you are new here or have forgotten, on May 14, 2010 one man’s final act of charity allowed my father to receive a second chance at life.
Please consider becoming an organ donor. I did.

Not only am I an organ donor, but so are all of my children. I'm a firm believer in it, even though organ donation hasn't personally touched our lives.
Thanks for posting this :)
I am, I am, I am!
Our law enforcement employer has an awesome program that promotes organ donation. And I am so glad that my friend (you) are personally enjoying the gift of your dad's second chance!

As a nurse I have watched heartache and happiness where this subject is concerned. I am a huge advocate of organ donation! I will say, it is bittersweet for a donor family, but in the end they find peace knowing that there is ultimately life gained....thank you to all of you who donate!
