In addition to Letters of Intent hosted by the lovely Julie, I'm also participating in the return of Follow Friday. I figured if there was any day that I had a lot of traffic on my blog, this was the day. Now before I get into my letter, allow me to get on my soap box and do a little preaching. IF you are participating in the Follow Friday bloghop, please for the love of all that is good and holy here in blogdom, if you take the time to visit someone's blog, read the post! I can't tell you how irritating it is to get comment after comment that says "Dropping by from {insert blog hophere}. Follow me back at {insert blog title/address here}. " Look, if you're only in it to increase your reader numbers and don't take the time to read what I've just written you can rest assured I won't be following you. I realize that's a pretty harsh statement but following just for the sake of numbers is rude in my book. This hop is going to work a little differently and I for one am T.H.R.I.L.L.E.D.
Now, for my letter. I can't promise you won't cry, nor will I admit to not crying while I wrote it. Just read it and I think you'll understand. Then swing back by Julie's and see what everyone else linked up with. I know I say this a lot, but I promise you won't be disappointed.
Dear Sir,
I hope my letter conveys my true feelings to you but know that nothing I can write or say would ever be adequate enough to tell you just how amazing you are. With that said, I will still attempt to explain why you will always mean the world to me, and my family.
Because of your selfessness and that of your family, my family's life was forever changed. To be more precise it changed May 14, 2010 at 8:48 a.m. That is when the phone rang and my momma answered it and was told they needed to go to Houston to the hospital because there was a liver for Daddy. My daddy who had only been on the UNOS transplant list for exactly 42 days that day. My daddy who had found out in January that he had liver cancer and that the only 'cure' would be a transplant. My daddy who had come home only the day before from the same hospital in Houston after he had dental surgery that was required as a condition of his placement on the transplant list.
We know so few things about you - only the basic statistics. You were 62 years old, lived in Florida and had a non-malignant brain tumor. You developed an infection that antibiotics couldn't squelch and ultimately led to your death. Did you have children? Grandchildren? Were you married and if so, did you leave behind a wife of many years? These are questions I don't know if I'll ever have the answers to.
Words cannot express our gratitude, and I wonder if I'm not the only person thankful for your gift of generousity. Your choice to offer your organs potentially saved up to nine lives that day. I'm sure any other families you helped are just as thankful but today I can only speak for one family. A family that consists of a couple married for 46 years, with 6 children (2 four-legged ones that just might be his favorites), 7 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter and another great-grandchild on the way.
We are so thankful and humbled by your act of charity but in our celebrating there is hurt. Hurt for your family who is going through the loss of one of their own. Our daily prayer intentions have mentioned you and your family, with the wish that they have a sense of comfort knowning a wonderful thing came from their tragedy. It may not comfort them now but in time my prayer and wish is that they come to realize just what an amazing man they were fortunate to know.
So sir, on this Memorial Day weekend, I remember you and your act of service. You may or may not have been in the military but to me and my family you are a hero. One that deserves to be remembered with flags and parades and a national day of recognition. I can't do more right now than write these words but please know that one day we will meet and I will give you the biggest, longest hug you've ever in your life received. I think that would be the best thing I could give you since your gift allowed me to know that I'll still be able to laugh with and hug my daddy for a long time.

Wow that was a really kind thing that the liver donor from Florida did. While I am saddened by that family's loss I am also touched by your letter and the need to let everyone know his act of kindness. thank you for sharing that with us.
Great letter. I hope your dad does well with his surgery. I will keep your family in my prayers.
(Also....If I could copy and paste your firsts paragraph to my own post???) :)
That is such a blessing to read. I am so thankful for your family but like you I wonder about his. How precious life is. I wish more people would be organ donors because when they are gone they can't use the parts anyway. Why not save someone's life. I hope your Dad is doing ok.
Wow, I am chocked up reading your letter. It is simply beautiful and so heartfelt. Great job, Leiah.
Great pre-amble and a wonderful letter and tribute to a selfless act..
Itty Bit was watching Cars AGAIN!! this morning, when it came to the part where Mator told lightning McQueen that he knew that he had made a good choice. Lightning asked about what. He replied making you my best friend...
I think that, that is how Rach and I feel about the core group of followers on her blog.
Meeting Brian and Julie just went further to prove it, and we can't wait for an opportunity to meet more of you.....
And if not there is still a connection of mutual respect and friendship.
So happy for your Dad's and your family's opportunity and blessing..
I have chills. What an amazing, selfless gift this man and his family gave. While my heart breaks for them it rejoices for you. What a blessing to be able to watch God's work here on earth.
Thanks for linking up, I am honored to read this letter.
That is so amazing! I am so glad that he got what he needed and so quickly!!!!
This was an amazing letter and I think that I will add this man and his family to my prayer list even though I do not know them. Such an amazing selfless act gives me hope that people, at least some of them are good and decent. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Hugs!
Awww damn it! Pass the kleenex! Lol... All kidding aside, this is beautiful hun!! Hugs!
So happy for you and your family that a donor was found! How wonderful that the miracle of science has given your dad another chance at life!! Hope he's doing well.

Hi, just found you through the 40+ Friday Follow, Nice to meet you, hope you'll follow me too :)
Oh wow..what an amazing gift your family was given. Thank you for sharing.
I too am glad that you can continue to hug your Daddy for a really long time:)
Congratulations on the awesome gift that man gave so unselfishly!!
Leiah, I am dropping by from the Follow Friday 40 and Over, and I'm glad that I did. :-) I will be among your newest followers.
Not only did your letter truly touch me - I'm SO glad for your family and will keep the family members of the donor in my thoughts - but your first paragraphs definitely echo my own frustrations. I'm not in it for the numbers, though having a lot of followers is something of a boost to the ego. But, if they're not actually ENJOYING my blog... I'd rather they NOT follow it.
That was actually the subject of one of my posts last week...
It was nice to find you! I hope you'll drop by my blog, if you have the time. :-)
Have a GREAT weekend!
That is a great letter! I have goosebumps! Thanks for posting it.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Dropping by from {insert blog hophere}. Follow me back at {insert blog title/address here}.
Ok. Not really. LOL That was a wonderful, tear jerker of a letter, hon. How bittersweet that someone has to lose their life to save another....
First, I have to LMAO @ your comment to new FF people. I had one yesterday who just said she was from FF and to come visit her blog and enter her giveaways. This is AT LEAST the 5th time she has been to my blog- from FF or from a meme and all she ever does is ask me to visit her. I actually sent her an email asking if she actually wasn't following. That it was okay if she wasn't, but she's been to my blog multiple times saying the same thing. That was probably really rude of me...and my followers went down by 1 after that. LOL
Anyway, to your letter- what a precious gift! Absolutely beautiful.
What a beautiful letter!! I absolutely love that you remember him on Memorial Day with other fallen heroes! You are amazing. =) If I could hope for anything, I would hope that this letter finds its way to the family of th man whose liver saved your father's life. It is touching and just wonderful, and I'm sure they would be so grateful to read that their gift was so appreciated and loved. =)
First, I totally got a kick out of your FF not. Because I once did a blog hop thing and got a lot of comments just like that "Hi, follow me and I'll follow you" and tho this might not make me popular, I don't follow just to follow and I hope those who follow actually like what I have to say on my blog. I just had someone whose blog I've followed for a long time post on mine "Stopping by from SITS" and I'm all, really? REALLY? Sigh. Off my soapbox.
Beautiful letter. I hope his family got some semblance of peace by knowing their loved one was giving life to so many others.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
What is this make Angel a weeping willow day?? I like you am so grateful there are individuals out there that would give sucha huge gift to another and my heart breaks at the fact they also had to lose to do that selfless act. Beautiful letter absolutely beautiful
Wow what a beautiful letter. I love it. So sweet. I am so happy for your father too. What a blessing that man's choice is to your family.
