Yep, it's that time again. The time you're either laughing your heads off or shaking them in disbelief but one thing you can count on ~ if it's Tuesday, it's gotta be a True Story! Drop on over to Rachel & Mr. Daddy's place and see what fabulous tales are going on over there. It's sure to be good!
If you've been here for a little bit you know I am the oldest of 4 children - all born within 4 years and 1 month. I must have been around 5 and a half, making my twin brothers Frick & Frack 4 and my baby sister Rugbug (which was her actual nickname) a little over a year when this True Story occurred.
This was my favorite show when I was growing up. I love love loved this show:
In fact, this little lady was my very bestest friend in the whole wide world:
There is one episode that I can remember watching like it was on last night ~ the one where Buffy & Jody were lost in Puerto Rico. I was sitting on the arm of our sofa, Rugbug in an infant seat of some sort and my mom between us. I had one of those little metal globe banks and she was showing me where Puerto Rico was located on the globe because even that young age I had a thirst for knowledge...yeah, right. While we were watching the show Frick & Frack kept going into the kitchen and then back to their bedroom with Dixie cups full of water. They must have each gotten a dozen cups. Mom was occupied with taking care of Rugbug, answering my plethora of questions I'm sure and told the boys they better not be making a mess in there. We were still watching the show when we notice one of the boys dragging this across the floor, filled with water and it sloshing over the sides:
Mom told me to watch my sister and she'd be right back. She followed my brother down the hall, watched him go into the bedroom and close the door. She threw open that door to discover "WHOOSH"~ the curtains in flames! Those two little monsters had found some matches and were playing with them when the curtains caught fire. They tried putting it out with the 847 Dixie cups and when that didn't work they resorted to Mom's Corningware. Mom yanked the curtains down and then called the fire department because as I remember it, the mattress was now on fire. The fire department came and put the fire out within minutes. Thankfully the only damage was to the mattress and a little soot/smoke damage to the wall where the curtains were hanging.
Now, remember my parents are only 26 and 24 and there are four of us kids. My mom stayed home and daddy worked at one of the plants/refineries. His only time away from either work or the nut hut home was one night a week at his bowling league ~ which was just where he was at the time of Frick & Frack's Adventures in Pyromania. They just thought playing with matches was a bad move on their part...now Daddy's been called away from bowling? Oh, Katy bar the door! I can remember sitting in the back seat of a car and my dad screaching up to the house. He asked my mom if everyone was OK and then started yanking kids out of the car to inflict a series of 'love pats' on some butts. I was spared since I was busy learning geography thanks to Buffy & Jody. Not that I would have ever done something like this because I never did anything wrong when I was young. The perfect child I was. HA!
Now when I called them little monsters, I wasn't exaggerating. About a month after their fire stunt they put a frog in the silverware drawer and when my mother opened it to get a spoon to feed Rugbug, who she was holding by the way, it jumped out at her. Then they put a cat in the closet of the utility room and when Mom opened the door it hissed at her and took off through the house. It only got worse as they got older. Blind Man's Bluff on bicycles...riding said bicycles under the streets through the storm drain system...you name it, they did it. They've had more broken bones & stitches than WWII survivors.
And in case you're wondering, yes I am still the favorite child.

I love this story! It made me laugh and I can so picture little twin boys trying their damndest to get that fire put out before momma saw what they'd done.
Blind man's bluff on bicycles... Oh! My! Word! What a great story :) Isn't it insane how boys play? Totally fun and insane!
Love this story! I can just picture two little boys scuttling back and forth with Dixie cups of water.
LOL...that is too funny. I think my son is one of their siblings. He is one crazy kid and I could totally see him doing the things your brothers did. LOL I'm the favorite kid too:)
That is SO funny! Lord, it's what scares me about my boys... they would so do that instead of tell me the house was on fire!
BTW, I am following you now... your comments at every TST post I have stopped at have had me in stitches! "J Lo" OMW!!! ;)
I love that you call your brothers Frick & Frack! My baby bro was a pyromaniac too. It must be a stage all boys go through!
Oh my goodness!! They were monsters, huh? bless your parents!
Man, they did do some crazy stuff! I hope they eventually grew out of it!
It must be a boy thing. My son once locked two fighting cats in his bedroom. After I found them and threw them out, the I discoved that the room was completely covered in cat urine. We took a blue light to it and every inch of carpet and drywall up three feet was covered in it. It's amazing that boy is still alive, huh?
That's a great story! It scares the poop out of me though being a mother of three boys, lol!
That is just NUTS! I cannot believe y'all survived the craziness!
Just blown away - and I can imagine you are still the golden child :)
(though I have to admit that I wonder what stories your brothers would post about you? hee hee :)
Thanks for linking up - this was unbelievable!
oh my gosh this is the best story!! I can only imagine the panic your mom must have felt when she saw the room on fire!!
Why wouldn't you be the favorite child? You had Mrs. Beasley.
Oh my gosh- your brothers are my nightmare. So far my boys have been angels compared to their behavior but I'm going to start praying now! So glad to hear that you're still the favorite. :)
My sister had a Mrs. Beasley doll. I don't remember this because I wasn't born yet, but my mother said she loved Mrs. Beasley.
Your post made me glad for the one boy. It also made me laugh out loud.
how funny!!!!
I am so glad to "meet" another LA girlie!!!!!

can't wait to get to know u better :)
Yeah, we firemen rarely use Corningware to extinguish fires anymore...
