True Story Tuesday - Everybody Loves A Good Sale!

Ok, so as a single mom I was always looking for the best deal a girl could get. I liked having a cute little house with all the appropriate cuteness in home decor but never liked not being able to always afford it. Thankfully I was blessed with the crafty gene! I have this wonderful ability to see something on one of those HGTV shows and realize "I can do that...and I'll do it for a whole lot less too!" I love love love finding a treasure on the side of the road that I can breathe new life into and use in my house to add to the cuteness. And don't get me started on garage sales...which is where this episode of True Story Tuesday takes place.

My Saturday morning routine consisted of a mapped out route of all the garage sales on the 'good' side of town. I actually lived on that side of town but these were the 'fancy' neighborhoods with all the good stuff, you know? Anyway after a particularly not-so-successful morning of treasure hunting I had started making my way back home. When lo and behold there it was...the mother of all sales! I couldn't believe I had missed this one when I made my list. It was your typical McMansion with boxes & boxes of things just lined up along the driveway. Y'all, I parked my car on the road, stuffed my jeans pockets with cash and headed out to find the best bargain ever and call their crap my own! I looked through about 3 boxes before anyone asked me if I needed help. He was a nice gentleman...confused looking but was probably just exhausted from dealing with garage sale details. This was later in the morning mind you and I'm sure they were swamped with those early bird shoppers. I told him no I was still just looking and then I spotted it!...the exact set of wrought iron candle sticks I had been wanting for months. I all but ran over to them and asked how much he wanted for them. He looked at me completely befuddled and asked if I lived in the neighborhood. I couldn't imagine what that had to do with me buying those candlesticks, unless he wanted to have visitation, but I told him no I was on my home when I noticed the garage sale and thought I would make one last stop before calling it a day. It was then he tried his best to contain his smile and said to me words I'll never ever forget..."We're not having a garage sale. We just moved in late last night and I haven't got all the boxes inside." I could have D.I.E.'d right then and there y'all! Thankfully I've also been blessed with a quick wit so I looked around again and said "Well, you sure have some nice stuff. Enjoy your new house!" and walked to my car and squealed those tires right out of that neighborhood!
